The Word Without Walls Podcast

Abram’s life is parabolic. God calls Abram out of his country, family, and house to live in a tent in a foreign land, yet God is thus blessing Abram (“bless” = to become what God intends) by enveloping him in promises of life infinite. Abram and Sarai are childless, yet God will make a nation from him.  In Abram all the nations of the earth will be blessed, that is, the promised Redeemer will come incarnate through a descendent of Abram and the Redeemer is for all people. The genuine children of Abram, the Israel of God, are all souls regenerated by God’s Word and Spirit—everyone honest about dependence. Note how Abram’s situation leaves him ready and willing to be honest about dependence on God and so compliant with God’s instructions.
